Roger Federer is the world’s highest paid athlete in 2020. Soon, he will enter another elite club only a few players have accomplished.

According to Business Insider, Federer is set to become tennis’s first billionaire before the year ends. By becoming a billionaire, he will join a rare club with Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather, all of whom have eclipsed the billionaire mark in their respective fields. It is no surprise that these men are not only the richest in their sport, but also the most successful.

R-Fed earned $106.3 million pretax from June 2019 to June 2020. He earned more than Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and LeBron James. The Forbes rankings considered money, salaries and bonuses from that span. How did the Swiss maestro manage to earn that much? The answer is via lucrative endorsements.

The 38-year-old signed a deal with Uniqlo in 2018, after being with Nike for many years. The deal reportedly pays him $300 million for 10 years. Aside from Uniqlo, he also represents Barilla, Credit Suisse Group (ADS), Mercedes-Benz, Rolex and Wilson Sporting Goods, per Forbes.

The former world number 1 bagged $900 million from career earnings and brand partnerships. Before 2021, Federer will make another $200 million from previous deals. No one can blame global brands if they choose him as their ambasssdor. He is a respected family man off the court and had no major scandals or issues in the past. He is married to Mika Federer and the couple has four children, two sets of twins Myla and Charlene and Leo and Lennart.

When it comes to winning titles, Federer holds the record books. FOX Business reported that he won 20 Grand Slam titles and was one of eight men who completed a career Grand Slam after capturing all four major titles in one year. Back in his heyday, R-Fed occupied the top spot in men’s tennis for a record 237 consecutive weeks.

Federer is now ranked fourth in men’s tennis behind Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem. He still has a lot left in his tank and the desire to add more trophies in his collection is still there, but time may not be on his side. If Federer decides to hang it up after a couple more years, he will be remembered as not only the greatest player to ever hold a tennis racket but also the most trusted and most profitable tennis player of all time.
