Speculation that Russell Wilson might not be part of the Seattle Seahawks’ future has been slowly building this offseason, and rumors that the quarterback could soon be elsewhere will only increase if he doesn't sign a contract extension Monday. The six-time Pro Bowler is a year away from becoming a free agent, and he has decided that he won't sign a new deal before this upcoming season if one isn't agreed upon by midnight.

Wilson's impending free agency doesn't necessarily mean he'll be gone after the 2019 NFL season. Even if the two sides can't agree on a new contract, Seattle will be able to use the franchise tag on their quarterback before the 2020 season.

But multiple reports indicate that the signal caller might prefer to play elsewhere.

Former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders Jack Del Rio said on the NFL Network last week that he wouldn't be surprised if Wilson is traded before the start of the season. A source has told ProFootballTalk that the Seahawks believe Wilson would rather play for another team, and Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu responded to that report by saying the quarterback wants to be in New York.

That's not the first time there's been a rumor that Wilson would like to play for the Giants. A trade between Seattle and New York doesn't seem completely impossible because the Giants might actually be able to put together an intriguing offer.

After trading Odell Beckham to the Cleveland Browns, New York owns both the No.6 overall and the No.17 overall picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Giants also has the No.37 overall selection.

New York is actively looking for Eli Manning's replacement. The Giants have met with and worked out the top quarterback prospects in this year's draft. It's been speculated that they could take a quarterback with one of their first-round picks, or even make a trade for Josh Rosen if the Arizona Cardinals draft Kyler Murray with the first overall selection.

The odds would still have to greatly favor Wilson staying in Seattle for the long-term. He carried the Seahawks to last year's playoffs after the team lost several stars in the previous offseason.

Wilson is a Super Bowl winner and likely among the five best quarterbacks in the NFL.
