KEY POINTS

  • Russia launched $400 million to $700 million worth of missiles on Ukraine on Monday
  • It had reportedly fired $7.5 billion worth of missiles toward Ukraine in the first two months of the war
  • Russia unleashed a new round of strikes across Ukraine on Tuesday

Russia spent up to $700 million on missiles to launch a barrage of strikes on several Ukrainian cities Monday, according to a report.

Earlier this week, Russia fired 83 cruise missiles on Ukraine in what President Vladimir Putin said was a response to the bombing of a key bridge in the Crimean Peninsula last Saturday. At least 45 missiles were reportedly shot down by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is estimated that Russia spent between $400 million and $700 million on missiles fired toward Ukraine, Forbes Ukraine reported. The outlet noted that its estimates were within a broad potential price range, primarily because it is unclear how many types of missiles were used by Russia in the barrage. Citing data used in the estimates, the publication said the types of missiles used in the Monday strikes were Kh-101, Kh-555, Caliber, Iskander, S-300 and Tornado-S.

To ascertain the cost of the missiles used, Forbes Ukraine used the following estimates: Kh-101 ($13 million), Kalibr ($6.5 million), Iskander ($3 million), Oniks ($1.25 million), Kh-22 ($1 million) and Tochka-U ($0.3 million).

Prior to Monday, Russia's biggest spending on missiles occurred in the first two months of the war. At the time, Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said Russia had fired more than 1,300 missiles into Ukraine, which Forbes Ukraine estimated to have cost Moscow $7.5 billion.

Russia then carried out a massive attack on Ukrainian cities in June, launching 60 to 80 missiles with a total cost of $150 million to $220 million, the publication noted.

The outlet's recent estimates come a day after the Russian forces began shelling several Ukrainian territories, spanning from Lviv Oblast in the west and Kharkiv in the east. As of Tuesday morning, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that 19 civilians died while 105 were injured in the Monday strikes. More than 300 settlements across the country remain without power as a result of the barrage.

Russia again unleashed a new round of shelling across Ukraine on Tuesday. Air sirens were heard sounded in Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkivska, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Donetsk, Vinnytsia, Mykolaivska, Odesa, Chernihivska, Zhytomyrska, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Volynska, Lvivskaya, Zakarpattia, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk and Kherson regions, reports said.
