  • The victims were kept in a Bucha basement
  • Russian soldiers also allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy in Bucha
  • An 83-year-old woman also said she was raped and beaten by a Russian troop

Russian soldiers held a group of women and young girls in a Bucha basement, allegedly subjecting them to acts of sexual violence, new reports revealed.

At least 25 females between the ages of 14 and 24 were kept in a basement of a house in the Ukrainian town of Bucha where Russian soldiers “systematically raped” them during the occupation. Lyudmyla Denisova, Ukraine’s ombudsman for human rights, has confirmed that nine victims are now pregnant.

“Russian soldiers told them they would rape them to the point where they wouldn't want sexual contact with any man, to prevent them from having Ukrainian children,” Denisova told BBC.

In another case, a 25-year-old woman called Ukrainian authorities through channels on the Telegram messaging app and reported that her 16-year-old sister was raped in the street in front of her. The caller also added that Russian soldiers were screaming “This will happen to every Nazi prostitute” as they raped the 16-year-old victim.

In a Facebook post, Denisova also shared more horrific cases of Russian soldiers' alleged abuse. She said a 14-year-old girl became pregnant after being raped by five men. An 11-year-old boy was also raped by Russian soldiers while his mother, who was tied to a chair, was forced to watch the act. Both cases occurred in Bucha.

“The level of brutality of the army of terrorists and executioners of the Russian Federation knows no bounds – raped children,” Denisova wrote. “There is no place on earth or in hell where racist criminals can hide from retribution!”

Young women and children were not the only victims of rape by Russian soldiers. Vera, an 83-year-old retired school teacher, said a soldier entered her home in March while the village was under their occupation. The soldier grabbed her by the back of the neck, beat her and then raped her.

“I wish he had killed me instead of what he did,” Vera said.

Russian soldiers have been accused of numerous war crimes, including raping, looting and killing civilians. Denisova has appealed to the UN Commission of Investigation of Human Rights violations to take the reports of crimes by the Russian military into account. In contrast, Russia continues to deny reports of its soldiers attacking civilians.
