Samsung will sell its upcoming foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, for the same prices as their predecessors, a new report claims.

According to a report from South Korean tech site ETNews, Samsung plans to sell the new Galaxy Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G for the same price as that of the older models released within the past year.

The report stated that the Galaxy Fold 2's selling price is “temporarily set” at 2.398 million KRW ($1,990), while the Galaxy Z Flip 5G's is set at 1.65 million KRW ($1,370). These prices are about the same as those of the first-gen Galaxy Fold and LTE-only Galaxy Z Flip, which sold for $1,980 and $1,380 at launch, respectively.

ETNews indicated that Samsung considered lowering the foldable handsets' selling prices in an effort to make them more appealing to the masses. But the company was unable to lower it beyond the set list price “due to application of expensive parts integrated with innovative technologies and advanced processes.”

These “expensive parts,” “innovative technologies” and “advanced processes” include components used for 5G connectivity, a more powerful Snapdragon 865+ SoC (as per GSM Arena), the use of foldable glass (known as Ultra-Thin Glass or UTG) on the cover windows and so on.

The report indicated that the Galaxy Fold 2 will feature a 7.7-inch main display and a 6.23-inch secondary cover display that will be used when the device is folded. It's worth noting that the cover display on the second-gen model is significantly wider than that of the cover display on the first-gen model.

Leaked renders posted online by noted leakers Ice Universe and Ishan Agarwal showed that the main inner display will be surrounded by thinner bezels and won't have the same notch like the one on the first-gen model. The cover display also looks bigger, and the rear camera setup looks a lot like the one on the Galaxy S20 series.

Not much is known about the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, except that it will have support for 5G and will come in a new “Mystic Bronze” color, which will be used on the Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and other upcoming accessories.
