Samsung has finally launched the highly anticipated Galaxy Fold, its first foldable smartphone, during the Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event that was held yesterday. The Galaxy Fold is a hybrid device that can be used a smartphone when folded and it can function when it is unfolded.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Specifications and Features

The Galaxy Fold comes with an outer AMOLED display of 4.6 inches and it is equipped with foldable internal AMOLED screen of 7.3 inches. These displays respectively support 1960 x 840 and 2152 x 1536 pixels resolution. For smooth folding and unfolding of the device, Samsung has incorporated a unique hinge with interlocked gears underneath its display. The hinge that is visible from outside when the device is closed comes in different colors.

The One UI based Android 9 Pie OS comes preloaded on the Galaxy Fold. For best multi-tasking experience, the Galaxy Fold allow users to open as many three apps simultaneously on the same screen on its internal display. The app continuity ability of the allow the apps opened on the outer display to adapt the larger internal display when it is unfolded, The Verge reported. The device is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and 12 GB of RAM powers the Galaxy Fold. It comes with a massive internal UFS 3.0 storage of 512 GB. There is a microSD card slot on the device for additional storage. The device includes a pair of batteries with a combined capacity of 4,380mAh. It carries support for 18W fast charging.

The Galaxy Fold has six cameras with three sensors on the rear, one on the front and the remaining two are placed internally. The rear side of the Galaxy Fold features 12-mgeapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with support for twofold optical zoom and a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens. The internal dual camera setup includes 10-megapixle primary sensor and an 8-megapixel depth sensor. The outer camera is of 10-megapixel.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Price and Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes in four color variants such as Space Silver, Cosmos Black, Martian Green and Astro Blue. The device will be available in LTE and 5G variants. In the U.S., the Galaxy Fold will be available for purchase from April 26 with a price tag of $1,980. According to Phone Arena, will be sold through only two carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile in the stateside. In Europe, it will be available for 1,999 euros ($2,270) starting from May 3.
