Scandal” Season 6, episode 14 recently saw a shakeup in Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) personal life.

After weeks of dealing with Frankie Vargas’ (Ricardo Chavira) assassination, the results of the elections and the arrival of Peus (Davird Warshofsky), Olivia has finally had the chance to sit down with her dad, Rowan (Joe Morton), for dinner. In the previous episode, Rowan became instrumental in getting rid of Peus and Samantha (Zoe Perry), but he also caused a huge problem when he shot Frankie during his electoral speech.

During their conversation, Rowan told Olivia that she should consider staying at the White House. Unfortunately, she can no longer be the first lady because Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) will be leaving his post in the coming weeks. But Rowan reminded Olivia that she can still have power at the Oval Office as Mellie Grant’s (Bellamy Young) chief of staff.

Olivia was open to the idea of teaming up with Mellie, but she faced problems with Quinn (Katie Lowes) and Huck (Guillermo Diaz). The members of Olivia Pope and Associates (OPA) were concerned over the fact that Olivia no longer seemed interested in the work that they have been doing for years: helping people. Olivia has become more interested in the goings-on at the White House, and Quinn accused her of being power hungry.

Back to Olivia and Rowan’s dinner, the former told the latter that he should take some time off because the things that happened recently might have taken a toll on Rowan. However, he said that if he leaves Olivia, he will be leaving her for good. Rowan stood up from his chair and said his goodbyes to Olivia, and it is unclear whether or not this is the last time Morton’s character will be seen on “Scandal.”

Before leaving Olivia, Rowan first met up with David Rosen (Joshua Malina). The latter was looking for Samantha because she told him that she loves him and wants to have children with him. But Samantha just said all of those things to get close to her targets. Rowan also killed Samantha in the previous episode, so he decided to give David the box that contained Samantha’s head.

A shocked David brought the box to Abby Whelan’s (Darby Stanchfield) house, and he and Abby asked for Jake Ballard’s (Scott Foley) help to test the head and find out if Samantha really is who she claimed to be. When the results came out, Jake revealed that Samantha’s real name is Gertrude. Together with this information, Jake also discovered who has been giving Samantha and Peus instructions to target Frankie and make sure that Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) won’t become the next president of the United States.

Olivia’s mom, Maya Lewis (Khandis Alexander), has been calling the shots all this time. The character is also back, and it is highly likely that she will reunite with Olivia in the final two episodes of “Scandal” Season 6.

“Scandal” Season 6 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
