Sean Penn Spotted Wearing Wedding Ring After Wife Leila George Filed For Divorce

Sean Penn was still wearing his wedding ring a day after his wife, actress Leila George, filed for divorce.

The "Mystic River" star was photographed wearing his wedding band when he stepped out in Malibu, California, Saturday, Page Six reported.

In photos obtained by the outlet, Penn, 61, had a lunch meeting with an unnamed man at Ollo restaurant. After finishing their meal, the pair continued chatting outside the restaurant as Penn took a smoke break.

The "I Am Sam" star sported a black T-shirt, black leather jacket, faded blue jeans and a pair of white sneakers for the outing.

This was the first time the actor had been spotted in public after Penn's 29-year-old wife filed for the dissolution of their marriage in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday following just over one year of marriage. The details of the divorce case, including the reason for the split, remain undisclosed.

Penn and George, the daughter of actor Vincent D'Onofrio, tied the knot in July 2020 during the height of the pandemic. They kept the ceremony intimate with only a few loved ones present to witness the event.

Rumors about their nuptials began to swirl after they were both spotted wearing gold wedding bands. Their celebrity pals congratulated them on social media before Penn eventually confirmed their marriage.

"We did a COVID wedding. By that I mean it was a county commissioner on Zoom and we were at the house, my two children and her brother. And we did it that way," Penn said on "Late Night With Seth Meyers," one month after they tied the knot.

Before their wedding made headlines, the Oscar winner gushed over George in an interview with News.com.au, telling the outlet that "I am madly in love with a wonderful, extraordinary Australian woman."

George and Penn had been romantically linked since 2016. One of George's friends told People in August 2020 that they had an on-again, off-again relationship before they got married.

"Leila has been in Sean’s life for a while. They got together and then they broke up, and Sean won her back," the unnamed friend told the outlet. "He realized he had made a mistake and when he felt he might lose her, he worked hard to get her back."

George is Penn's third wife. He was previously married to Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010, and Madonna from 1985 to 1989.
