Seattle police shot and killed a domestic violence suspect armed with a knife in a Lower Queen Anne apartment on Wednesday night. Police said they responded after receiving a series of 911 hang-up calls from the complex.

Four police officers arrived at the scene shortly after 7.45pm and entered a third-storey apartment in the 600 block of Third Avenue West. Police Spokesperson Detective Mark Jamieson told The Seattle Times that the officers discovered an adult man holding a knife as they entered the apartment. Two officers fired, striking him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking to the reporters outside the building, Jaimeson said that investigators are not clear if “the officers gave verbal command before shooting and what the man was doing before being shot," reported Seattle Times. No officers were injured in the shooting.Police has not revealed the identity of the victim.

Police determined it as a domestic violence incident the apartment with the woman who was present in the apartment during the shooting. The woman seems physically unharmed and the investigators are questioning her, reported K5 News.

The department’s Force investigation Team, Crime Scene investigators, Office of Police Accountability and King County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

The investigators were present in the area for several more hours and several blocks on the west side of Lower Queen Anne near 3rd Avenue West and Mercer Street were closed for the investigation.
