Sergiy Derevyanchenko’s trainer senses that an aging Gennady Golovkin could be as dangerous as Manny Pacquiao.

The new IBF middleweight title holder will be determined with the result of much awaited bout between Golovkin and Derevyanchenko in October. Ahead of the bout, Derevyanchenko’s trainer Andre Rozier believes that “GGG” could be as dangerous as Pacquiao despite the fact that he’s already 37 years old.

In a media scrum before the press conference last Thursday, Rozier addressed Golovkin’s age. According to Rozier, he doesn’t want to hear any excuses about Golovkin’s age being a factor should his fighter Derevyachenko happens to win the bout, Boxing Scene reported.

“I don’t want any excuses about it. We’re training for the best Triple-G (Golovkin) that we can actually get in the ring with. And ‘The Technician’ (Derevyanchenko) is gonna be on point. He’s gonna be ready to win this fight and he’s gonna take [Golovkin] to task, because it’s his time to do it,” Rozier pointed out.

Rozier continued by furiously stating that he will “slap” the first person to claim that Golovkin lost because he’s too old.

“The first person that says, ‘Well, Triple-G was old,’ I’m gonna have to slap him myself,” Rozier claimed.

Rozier also made a huge comparison during the interview. Based on his assessment, Golovkin still has the power in his hands and more importantly, Golovkin could be as dangerous as Pacquiao despite his age.

“It’s possible. Age catches up to everyone. He’s 37, but to me, he’s as dangerous as ever and if he lands a shot, it’s very dangerous. Pacquiao’s fighting at 40 and winning fights,” Rozier stated.

Meanwhile, Golovkin seemed determined to prove that he can still compete at a championship level. In a press conference, the former middleweight champ commended his training camp and said that coming into a slugfest with a fighter like Derevyanchenko is no joke.

"I am so excited because I understood the situation. I work with the best people in boxing. I have the best opponent. Sergiy Derevyanchenko, I know him a long time ago. He’s a very good fighter. I understood my situation. This is not a game. This is a real fight," Golovkin said.

However, Golovkin also made the headlines when he surprisingly admitted that he’s “a little bit scared” of Derevyachenko’s physique and aura.

"Why am I scared? Because he looks good. He looks strong. He feels it’s his time right now. Maybe," Golovkin admitted.
