Single Working Women's Day is marked annually on Aug. 4 to recognize the important role they play in our communities and societies.

The day was founded in 2006 by activist Barbara Payne.

To celebrate this day, talk to the single working women in your life and tell them how much you respect them for the hard work they do every day. If you are a single working woman, then it's time to cheer for yourself and your achievements.

Here are some inspiring quotes, courtesy Thought Catalogue, about single women's empowerment to share on this day:

1. "I don't need to be in a relationship to be told how beautiful, pretty and sexy I am. I already know that." — Mandy Hale

2. "She is a strong cup of black coffee in a world that is drunk on the cheap wine of shallow love." — J.M.Storm

3. "I'm still learning to love the parts of myself that no one claps for." — Rudy Francisco

4. "It is better to be single and wait for what you deserve than lower your standards and settle for less than God's best for you." — Brittney Moses

5. "Our first job in life as women is to get to know ourselves. I think a lot of times we don't do that. We spend our time pleasing, satisfying, looking out into the world to define who we are; listening to the messages, the images, the limited definitions that people have of who we are." — Michelle Obama

6. "Your not single because of an attitude problem. You're single because some men have a problem with strong minded women. Women who aren't afraid to call b.s when they see it. You’re single because you've yet to find someone who is willing to understand why you are the way you are. You’re single because you’re built for a man who won’t be intimated, he’ll find you." — R.H.Sin

7. "And you scare people because you are whole all by yourself." — Lauren Alex Hooper

8. "I like being alone. I have control over my own shit. Therefore, in order to win me over, your presence has to feel better than my solitude. You’re not competing with another person, you are competing with my comfort zones." — Horacio Jones

9. "Don't settle, even if you remain alone for a lifetime. You deserve someone who will appreciate you for both your beauty and your bruises." — A.R.Lucas

10. "I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up all alone, it's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel alone." — Robin Williams
