Kristen Wiig hosted the final “Saturday Night Live” episode of 2020, which reflected on the struggles of the past year while attempting to spread some holiday cheer. The NBC sketch comedy show took on the COVID-19 vaccine, a holiday movie, and a special segment dedicated to embarrassing cast members.

Cold Open

In the cold open, castmember Beck Bennett reprised his role as Vice President Mike Pence to mock the Republican’s decision to have his vaccination televised. “I’m sure all Americans are excited to see me, the guy who let COVID spread everywhere, get one of the first vaccines,” Beck said in the sketch.

Pence, who is the leader of the White House’s coronavirus task force, had allowed cameras to record the vaccination as a way to reassure Americans who are worried about its safety.

“Home Alone 2”

Wiig took on the role of the Pigeon Lady, who was played by Brenda Fricker, in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.” In the film, Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) befriended the homeless woman who fed pigeons in Central Park. However, in the “SNL” version, cast member Melissa Villasenor portrayed the little boy, who was living it up at the luxurious Plaza Hotel after being separated from his family.

In the scene, Wigg’s Pigeon Lady learns Kevin has his father’s credit card and can afford to get her a room at the Plaza, food, and clothes. However, when the thieves chasing Kevin threaten to steal the credit card, the Pigeon Lady refuses to let the men ruin her chance to get off the streets.

“This is my ticket out of here. Die!” she says as she stabs them with an umbrella, turning the holiday flick into a gory thriller.

Weekend Update

One of the highlights of this particular “Weekend Update” was the Christmas joke swap between hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che. Each year, ahead of the Christmas holiday, the co-anchors force each other to read jokes they have never seen. During the segment, Jost was forced to read jokes that made him look like a racist, while Che was forced to read jokes that made him look like a pedophile.
