  • He was replaced by "SNL" castmember Alex Moffat
  • A number of Twitter fans were not impressed with Carrey's impersonation of Biden on the show

Jim Carrey has decided to end his impersonation of President-elect Joe Biden on “Saturday Night Live.”

After portraying Biden in the first six episodes of this season’s “SNL,” Carrey announced Saturday via Twitter that he will no longer play the president-elect on the show. Hours later, the NBC variety show introduced castmember Alex Moffat as its new Biden.

“Though my term was only meant to be six weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President ... comedy’s highest call of duty,” Carrey tweeted. “I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that [expletive]. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting ‘SNL’ Bidens.”

Carrey's announcement received mixed reactions online, with some who were not impressed with his stint as the former vice-president expressing approval for his decision.

"Too much overacting. I was not impressed," one commented. "'Overacting' is Carrey's middle name," another agreed.

"It was a mean-spirited, un-nuanced, lazy, conservative based depiction of Biden and I hated it. It was almost as bad as My Cartoon President on Showtime," a third netizen wrote.

"It never seemed an impression of Biden but just one of Carrey's bizarre characters. His characters are comedic but it was so out of place to have it pretend to have anything to do with Biden or the skits it was in," another user wrote.

Some of Carrey's fans sent their love to him, but like others, they were also not impressed with the way he played Biden on the show. One suggested that it was because he was more animated compared to the president-elect.

"I am a longtime fan of yours, Biden and SNL but I have [to say your] Joe impressions were underwhelming. Keep working on it...you'll get it," one wrote.

"No offense, but I never got into you playing Biden. I think you are way more animated than the role called for. Biden is very mellow and subdued," another posted.

Before the announcement came that Moffat would be taking over the role, several Twitter users had suggestions regarding who could play Biden in the upcoming episodes of "SNL."

"They don't need a big Hollywood star to play Biden. Beck Bennet or Alex Moffat could do it. They should probably go with Moffat so he could interact with Bennet's Vladimir Putin," one netizen wrote.

"He was lame anyway, Woody Harrelson was way better," another commented.

"Woody Harrelson was the best of the Biden’s. All the others have been too forced and cringe," a third user agreed.

Another Twitter user said, "Jason Sudekis did a perfect one, don't know why they ever went away from it."
