Sony has apparently sent out invitations for the upcoming CES 2016 event scheduled for Jan. 5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The invitation shows a VR headset, gadget, headphone, camera, delicate TV and a smartphone. Could the handset be the flagship Sony Xperia Z6 or perhaps, a powerful new Xperia series?

The probability of seeing the Xperia Z6 is quite less, precisely because Sony launched the Xperia Z5 series, which includes the flagship, Xperia Z5 Compact and the Xperia Z5 Premium, only in October this year. Although, this series can now be purchased in the U.S. as international factory unlocked variants, Sony has not officially released the Z5 series yet. Hence, it goes without saying that the Xperia Z6 is not the mystery high-end device waiting to be introduced.

Technically, upon delaying the launch of the Xperia Z6, Sony could make use of the recently launched Qualcomm “Snapdragon 820” chipset. This chip is believed to use less power while giving phenomenal performance. On a related note, news about successor “Snapdragon 830” has already started making rounds in the blogosphere.

Moving back to the mystery device, Phone Arena said the smartphone in question could be the “Sony Xperia Z5 Ultra.” Rumor has it that the new device will start shipping sometime in March 2016.

As far as the specifications go, the Xperia Z5 Ultra will reportedly feature a humongous 6.44-inch display, bundled with 2,160 x 3,840 pixels (4K) screen resolution, seen in the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Although, there is no clear indication of the processor, the device will apparently come backed with 4 GB of RAM.

In true Sony style, a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera unit is believed to be mounted on the device. A big battery has also been promised to handle the demands of the huge display, power-hungry screen resolution and other modules.
