One of the most intriguing matchups of the season is set for Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5-1) host the New England Patriots (9-4) at Heinz Field. Both playoff hopefuls will be playing with added motivation after suffering stunning losses in Week 14.

The Patriots fell to the Miami Dolphins, 34-33, on a wild final play in which the Dolphins' Kenyan Drake ran 52 yards for a touchdown, following two laterals. The Steelers failed to send the game into overtime on the road against the lowly Oakland Raiders, 24-21, as kicker Chris Boswell slipped on a potential game-tying 40-yard field goal on the final play.

With three games remaining in the season, the Patriots are tied with the Houston Texans for the third-best record (9-4) in the AFC, while the Steelers own a very slim lead on the Baltimore Ravens (7-6) in the AFC North.

Adding to the matchup's suspense is the status of Steelers quarterback Ben Rothelisberger. The veteran says he will play Sunday but remains mum about his rib injury.

Oddsmakers opened the betting line with the Patriots favored at 1.5 points. The line moved briefly, at one point favoring the Patriots by 3 points. However, as of Tuesday afternoon, the Patriots were favored by 1.5 points again.

The over/under for the matchup is 49 points.

The Steelers are 1-3-1 against the spread over the past five games, while the Patriots are 3-2 against the spread in the same span.

The two teams met in Pittsburgh in Week 15 of the 2017 season, with the Patriots outscoring the Steelers 11-0 in the fourth quarter to win, 27-24. New England defeated Pittsburgh twice in 2016 — a 27-16 win in Pittsburgh in Week 7 followed by a 36-17 win at Gillette Stadium in the Conference Championship.

The last time the Steelers beat the Patriots was on Oct. 30, 2011.
