Stephen Curry will be missing from action longer than expected as he requires a re-evaluation of his right groin injury.

The Golden State Warriors announced Wednesday that the point guard is continuing to be monitored and evaluated by the team's training and medical staff.

Having missed the last three games for the reigning champions after suffering his groin injury against the Milwaukee Bucks last week, Curry will be re-evaluated again in 10 days.

He will be traveling with the team for their three-game road trip to Texas where they will face the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs, but will not be in action.

With Curry's re-evaluation taking place on Nov. 24, it means he will be missing the next six games at least. Along with the road trip to Texas, he is likely to miss out against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers as well.

The Warriors play the Sacramento Kings on the day of his re-evaluation too, so it is unlikely he will feature against them barring an early recovery. Most outlets, however, believe it could just be five games rather than six.

Curry has had a history of injury problems over the years and most recently was out of action toward the end of the 2017/18 regular season when he suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee.

However, a groin strain is something he has never experienced before and so, the Warriors are said to be extra careful this time around and are making sure he's 100 percent healthy.

His extended layoff goes along with the usual timeframes for players who suffer groin injuries. Curry was only expected to miss a couple of games, but as NBC Sports observed last week, many players have been out longer than usual:

  • Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Ingram was expected to be out for two weeks after a groin strain in March this year, but would eventually be out for 24 days, missing 12 games in the process.
  • Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker was expected to be out for two weeks after a groin strain last December. He would eventually be out for three weeks, missing nine games in the process.
  • Houston Rockets guard Chris Paul missed eight days and three games after a groin injury last December.

The Warriors will be hoping Curry returns sooner rather than later.

Despite getting back to winning ways against the Atlanta Hawks with a 110-103 victory on Tuesday to take their regular season record to 12-3, the Warriors have historically struggled without Curry.

They notably lost 10 of their last 17 regular season games without the 30-year-old in 2017/18, while in the Steve Kerr era, they are just 23-19 without Curry in the team, as opposed to 254-47 with him present, further highlighting his importance to the side.

Ideally, a return could take place against the Orlando Magic when they visit the Oracle Arena on Nov. 26.
