"West Side Story" is an official remake of the musical romance of the same name, which was released in 1961. The movie is based on William Shakespeare's classic story "Romeo and Juliet" and is set in 1950s New York.

The movie revolves around the rivalry between two gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. The plot thickens when one of the gang members falls in love with another gang members' sister.

Ever since the trailer dropped, fans couldn't stop praising the 74-year-old director. One of the users compared a frame from "West Side Story (1961) x West Side Story (2021)"

Another user shared:

Meanwhile, another user praised the sequence when the director's name appeared and tweeted, "This sequence in that trailer is a stroke of genius. A thing of creative beauty. #WestSideStory #Oscars."

"West Side Story" will mark Spielberg's first musical movie, featuring a young cast including "Baby Driver" star Ansel Elgort. The movie also features actors like Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, and Corey Stoll in key roles.

The movie is a musical but it might come as a surprise that the first trailer didn't highlight the music aspect. However, in future trailers, fans expect more songs and music.

The musical is slated to release on Dec. 10, 2021, in theaters.
