President Olivia Marsdin (Lynda Carter) will try to convince Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) to support her alien amnesty act in Season 2, episode 3 of “Supergirl.”

In a sneak peek for the upcoming episode, titled “Welcome to Earth,” President Marsdin tells Hank that it is high time for her alien amnesty act to be enacted into law — an idea that the director of the D.E.O. doesn’t really approve.

“I’m surprised now that your true identity is known to the world, you don’t live openly as your Martian self,” the President tells Hank in the three-minute clip.

“I find looking human makes people feel more comfortable,” Hank explains.

“Hopefully, my alien amnesty act will change that for you and everyone else from beyond the stars that have made Earth their home,” the president says. “I know the D.E.O.’s mission is to hunt renegade aliens, but that mission is going to have to adapt. You disagree director?”

Hank admits to the President that he doesn’t think that enacting her alien amnesty act into law is a good idea. “There are aliens out there, killers who would not understand the concept of the very right you are offering them, evil creatures who could take advantage of your good will,” the Martian refugee tells the President.

“I imagine the very same thing once said about you J’onn J’onzz,” the president tells Martian Manhunter. “But someone gave you the benefit of the doubt. Isn’t it time we pay that forward? I can’t think of any better time than the present to extend our hand and friendship.” Watch the full sneak peek at the bottom of the article.

While Hank is pretty diplomatic in expressing his opposition to the President’s alien amnesty act, there are people who resort to desperate measures just to make sure that the bill won’t be enacted into law, and those people put the President’s safety at risk.

“[President Marsdin] very much believes in this cause, which is going to put her in danger, which is going to necessitate Supergirl [Melissa Benoist] protecting her,” Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly.

According to the synopsis for next week’s episode, an attack is made on the President as alien vs. human rights issues heat up in National City. Although Kara thinks that the recently escaped Mon-El (Chris Wood) is the one behind the assault, Cadmus could be the responsible party, as the group’s primary goal goes against the President’s alien amnesty act.

Kreisberg revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Cadmus vows to eliminate all forms of alien life on Earth because they believe that ever since these aliens started coming, the planet has become this “free for all [dwelling place], and human beings are about to get knocked off the food chain.”

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 3 airs on Monday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
