Henry Cavill was very candid during an interview with U.K.’s Men’s Health that was published in its September issue. The “Superman” star talked about his movie roles and his intense fitness routine and even admitted to being an overweight teenager.

The super-fit British actor revealed that he followed a grueling fitness routine to prepare for his DC Comics superhero role, E! News reported. What made things challenging for the “Man of Steel” was that he needed to maintain a less muscular form while filming the upcoming thriller “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” but at the same time prep his body for the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” movie.

Cavill said his workout routine consisted of “doing enough heavy stuff” to keep him fit and make it easier to switch to a harder workout, without putting on muscle. He added, “We had to keep me at a certain weight and make sure I didn't blow up and get fat -- which is easy to do when you're under stress and you want to have a drink at the weekend."

Despite the difficult workout, the 32-year-old star admitted he enjoyed training and doing hard work. Cavill explained that he “really, really likes it” since it made him feel like he accomplished something for the day. He shared, “It was great to go and train this morning.... Doing the right thing releases the right chemicals.”

Similarly to his superhero movie character, Cavill is also a man of integrity and told the magazine that he takes pride in his work. "It’s pride,” said the actor. "When I'm old, I'm not going to go, ‘I'm so glad I cheated myself my entire life, so glad I got away with it.' I want to die and, in those moments, realize that I still have integrity… That's what really matters."

Meanwhile, fans will be surprised to discover that the handsome British actor battled obesity during his teenage years. According to Entertainment Tonight, the star revealed to Men’s Health U.K. that people used to call him “Fat Cavill.” The star did not experience any bullying though, but admitted he was “quite bitter for a while.” Obviously, Cavill overcame his adolescent weight issues and is now one of the fittest and most handsome actors in Hollywood.

Fans will be able to see Cavill on the big screen as his new movie “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” is set to open in theaters Thursday.
