Japanese game company Nintendo is known for its handheld game systems, as well as its family-friendly games, over the years. Now, the gaming giant is set to release another gaming machine designed for handheld portable play: the Switch Lite.

While the Switch Lite is named after the currently existing Switch console, it has a look and feel reminiscent of the 2DS handheld, GameSpot noted. It can run titles designed for the Switch, but comes in a smaller body. Here’s a quick glance at the differences between the Switch Lite and the original Switch:

The Switch Lite is more portable

The Switch Lite, as the name implies, is a more portable version compared to the original Switch. It comes in a smaller body, has built-in controllers, and is lighter than the original model by at least 122 grams. It also has a longer base battery life compared to the older Switch version, which means players can enjoy playing their games on the go for longer.

The Switch Lite can still play Switch games

Despite coming in a smaller body, the Switch Lite is still capable of playing games designed for the original Switch. Players can splay popular titles like “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” “Super Mario Maker 2” and “Mario Kart 8” on the Switch Lite as much as they can on the original model.

The Switch Lite is cheaper and looks great

The Switch Lite offers portable Switch gaming at a lower price. What’s more, the Switch Lite is one good-looking piece of gaming hardware that comes in a variety of colors players can choose from.

The Switch Lite is designed for solo play

Unlike the original model, the Switch Lite is primarily designed for handheld solo play. This will turn off players who like to play local multiplayer games with family and friends using several Joy-Cons. And because the Switch Lite’s controllers aren’t detachable, players will have to buy extra Joy-Cons for multiplayer gaming.

Additionally, the Switch Lite has no kickstand and cannot be docked to connect to a TV screen. The lack of these features indicate that it was simply designed primarily for handheld solo play.
