Lifetime’s “Ripped From the Headlines” event continues on Saturday with the premiere of the original movie “Switched Before Birth.”

According to the network, the film was “inspired by IVF stories of actual couples” and will center on two women whose lives become intertwined after a mistake during the IVF process.

The movie follows Olivia Crawford (Skyler Samuels) and her husband Brian (Bo Yokely), who have suffered several miscarriages and failed IVF attempts. As the process begins to affect the couple’s finances, they receive news that Olivia is pregnant with twins.

During her IVF process, Olivia meets Anna Ramirez (Justina Machado), who is struggling to conceive after spending years focusing on becoming a successful restaurateur. Anna eventually becomes pregnant, and the women continue to support one another through their journeys.

However, Anna suffers a miscarriage, which puts a strain on her marriage with Gabe Ramirez (Yancey Arias). Although Olivia is there for Anna during the devastating time in her life, the women’s friendship takes a major turn.

“When Olivia and Brian finally welcome their twins Olivia’s life feels complete, but the happy couple’s world is turned upside down when they discover that not only are the babies not twins, but one of the babies is also biologically Anna and Gabe’s that was implanted into Olivia by mistake,” the synopsis for “Switched Before Birth” teases.

“Now pitted against each other, Olivia will do anything to keep the baby that she carried, while Anna will stop at nothing to bring her son home.”

The film was directed by Elisabeth Röhm and the script was written by Kelly Fullerton. Leslie Greif, Eric Tomosunas, Laurie Pozmantier, and Stacy Mandelberg served as executive producers on the film.

Alex Kerr and Ron Robinson served as producers, and the TV movie was produced by Big Dreams Entertainment and Swirl for Lifetime.

“Switched Before Birth” premieres on Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT on Lifetime.
