Is John Mayer still hung up on Taylor Swift? It might depend on who you ask, but Mayer fired up the flames of their past relationship recently after he threw shade at his ex-girlfriend during her birthday.

“Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually,” he tweeted.

People immediately called him out on his tweet, so Mayer deleted it, according to Fox News. He made a follow-up post: “NOPE. No. Nuh-uh. People I am 39. I am deleting those tweets. Come right at me for doing so. Absolutely no shade.”

Still, the replies and accusations did not stop, so Mayer deleted his second tweet as well. When social media users refused to stop, he posted a screenshot of his deleted tweet and added: “Looks like I shouldn’t have deleted this tweet…”

Swift’s fans crucified Mayer for throwing shade at his ex. “You posted it. You knew what people would think/say. Just like Katy [Perry]. You're 39. Act it. Dear Joohhnn…” a fan named Andrea wrote. Another fan named Angelina added, “If you're 39, stop dissing Taylor on the internet like a salty 13 year old after a middle school breakup. You really don't need to.”

After they broke up, Swift wrote “Dear John” to get her revenge on Mayer. Mayer told the Rolling Stone that the song really “humiliated” him because it contained lyrics about the “twisted games” he played on a 19-year-old Swift. “I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do,” he said.

“I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?” he continued. “I will say as a songwriter that I think it's kind of cheap songwriting.”
