A Hong Kong man accused of raping his daughter walked free from court Wednesday after the girl admitted making up allegations in order to frame him.

The man, who had spent 15 months in prison, was freed two days after the girl admitted to have made up the allegations out of anger over the father’s favoritism toward her brother. She also faked medical evidence to make the lie more convincing.

In a hearing a week prior to his release, the prosecutor had told court that the man had raped his daughter seven times between 2015 and 2017 and had also threatened to kill himself if she told anyone about it. A physical examination post the most recent alleged assault showed traces of semen on the girl’s genitals, the South China Morning Post reported.

The 15-year-old girl, however, took to the witness box and gave a completely different narration of the incident from what she had told the investigators earlier. She had told them that she was first molested by her father at the age of 12 when he undressed her and rubbed his genitals against hers. The assaults continued and on one occasion, she claimed, her father assaulted her while her brother was in the same room. She said the first rape took place in 2016 and that her father not only offered her money on some occasions but also threatened to kill himself if she told anyone about it.

She, however, told the court on Monday that she lied about the rape to frame her father, 42, who always favored her younger brother. She also admitted to have inserted the semen, which she had found on a used tissue, into her genitals herself.

Justice Anthea Pang Po-kam on Wednesday asked the jury to declare the man not guilty following his daughter’s testimony. She also asked prosecutors to see if a protection order would be needed for the girl as she felt the teenager was not in a “harmonious” relationship with her family.

The man was in jail since the allegations surfaced in October of 2017. It is unknown if he would go back home to his family.

In a similar incident in August 2018, a teen girl falsely accused her ex-boyfriend of raping her after he refused to get back to her. Post the break up, the girl told her friend that the boy had spiked her water bottle and raped her during a car trip. The friend then took the girl to the police station where the latter told police the boy became forceful and pinned me down, I kept telling him to stop. I think he had drugged the water I was drinking." She, however, admitted to have lied after her family started questioning her. She was charged with wasting police time and bailed, the Telegraph reported.
