The Tesla Model 3 is the top-selling car in Norway, according to third-quarter figures released Tuesday. Tesla sold 3,300 Model 3 vehicles in the July-September period.

Electric vehicles are extremely popular in Norway, with 54.5% of cars sold there in September being fully electric, up from 45.3% in the same month last year.

The vehicle is also posting strong numbers in the Netherlands, which is home to Tesla's European headquarters. Over 7,000 Model 3 cars were delivered over the past three months in the country.

The midsized Model 3 sedan was introduced in most European countries earlier this year, with Tesla, in general, experiencing strong growth on the continent. Tesla tripled its sales in the European region in the first six months of 2019.

The success of Tesla in Europe has resulted in CEO Elon Musk scouting for a new manufacturing location for the company, with Germany being the top choice for a new Gigafactory.

German media in August reported that Musk was looking to establish the factory in the western German states of North Rhine-Westphalia or Lower Saxony. The factory would be able to better satisfy the ever-growing European demand for Tesla vehicles.

As a whole, the European car industry is struggling, with the European Automobile Manufacturers Association saying that registrations dropped 8.4% in August. The main challenges are waning consumer confidence, new European carbon-dioxide emissions rules, and the threat of escalating trade tensions with the United States.
