As professional sports start to slowly return during the coronavirus pandemic, the two greatest golfers of their generation are helping to lead the way. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are set to compete in a competition with assistance from the two best NFL quarterbacks of their time.

“The Match: Champions for Charity,” is a sanctioned PGA Tour event scheduled for Sunday, May 24 at the Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. Woods and former two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning will team up against Mickelson and new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

The event starts at 3 p.m. EDT on May 24 and will be televised by TNT, TBS, truTV and HLN. WarnerMedia and the golfers will donate $10 million total to coronavirus relief efforts.

It’s a unique rematch of the head-to-head competition that Woods and Mickelson were part of on Nov. 23, 2018. This time, the golfers and their teammates will face off in a best-ball format on the front-nine and a modified alternate shot format on the back-nine.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unimaginable tragedy and heartbreak,” said Jeff Zucker, Chairman of WarnerMedia News and Sports. “We’re hopeful this event and platform will help raise meaningful funding for COVID-19 relief, while also providing a source of brief distraction and entertainment for all sports fans.”

Mickelson defeated Woods to win “The Match” a year and a half ago in Las Vegas. The two golfers were tied after 18 holes, and Mickelson secured the victory on the 22nd hole. Mickelson won a $9 million prize.

The PGA Tour was suspended during the Players Championship in the middle of March. Play is scheduled to resume on June 11 with the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The Masters has been moved from April to Nov. 12-15.
