In an unfortunate incident, a man accidentally ran over his two-year-old daughter with a truck, killing the girl. The incident took place in Guthrie County, Iowa on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the Guthrie County Hospital on Wednesday evening after receiving information that a toddler was run over by a vehicle. The girl’s father told the responding officers that his family had returned home from fishing.

Believing that his children and wife were inside the home, the man decided to go to the barn and check on his livestock. He stepped into his truck and backed up without seeing behind the vehicle. He then saw his toddler daughter lying in front of the vehicle.

The child was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Referring to the incident as an accident, officials said no foul play was involved.

In a similar incident in Hidalgo County, Texas, last year, a one-year-old child died after she was accidentally run over by her father. Deputies responded to a home after receiving a report of an injured child. The responding officers found the girl behind the tire of a truck. The girl’s father told the officers that he was backing up when he accidentally ran over her.
