Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are already back in the U.S. after they were quarantined in Australia due to their coronavirus diagnosis.

On Saturday, the “Castaway“ actor took to Twitter to give his fans an update about him and his wife’s condition after they tested positive for coronavirus. Hanks announced that they were back home and thanked everyone who wished them well when they were still battling COVID-19.

“We're home now and, like the rest of America, we carry on with sheltering in place and social distancing,” Hanks wrote. “Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who looked after us. Their care and guidance made possible our return to the USA. And many thanks to all of you who reached out with well wishes. Rita and I so appreciate it. Hanx.”

Hanks was released from the Australian hospital on March 17 after being quarantined, but his wife remained hospitalized at the time. Apparently, she had been released as well.

Hanks and Wilson were spotted on Friday driving in Los Angeles. The sighting happened two weeks after the Hollywood couple revealed that they tested positive for COVID-19.

An insider said that the pair decided to share their coronavirus diagnosis because “they felt that it was the right thing to do.”

“They felt it was their social duty to let the public know this disease is spreading,” the insider told Entertainment Tonight. “They'd been in contact with co-workers, friends and fans, that announcing they had the virus was their way of making sure those who had been in contact with them would know to get tested.”

Following Hanks’ confession that he and his wife were positive of coronavirus, the officials from Queensland released a statement revealing where they might have contracted the virus. They didn’t mention Hanks and Wilson’s names but stressed that the state’s new patients at the time were non-contact cases and could have “contracted the illness outside Australia and traveled to Queensland with the virus,” so they were probably infected in the United States of while traveling to Australia.

Hanks and Wilson were in Australia a week before their diagnosis. The couple have been in the Land Down Under in January for a film’s pre-production. But they traveled to the U.S. for the Academy Awards in February.
