KEY POINTS

  • Tom Holland’s “Uncharted” dominated the box office with its $23.3 million ticket sales
  • “Spider-Man: No Way Home” secured the third spot on the box office list with its $5.7 million domestic earnings
  • Channing Tatum’s “Dog” performed well and landed second with its $10 million domestic income

Tom Holland proved his star power over the weekend after two of his films recorded staggering box office numbers.

The 25-year-old Hollywood actor’s new Sony film “Uncharted” brought its worldwide total to $226.4 million this weekend after raking in $23.3 million domestically and $35 million from 64 overseas markets.

The figure is considered impressive for the PG-13 video game adaptation since it has yet to open in China, which is the world’s largest theatrical film market. “Uncharted” is coming to China on March 14, Variety reported.

The Ruben Fleischer-directed project cost $120 million to produce. It follows the adventures of Nathan Drake (Holland) and his partner Sully (Mark Wahlberg) as they try to recover a 500-year-old lost fortune once amassed by historical figure Ferdinand Magellan.

Holland and Sony also secured another milestone this weekend when “Spider-Man: No Way Home” reached the $1.85 billion mark worldwide after recording another $7 million, months after its release in theaters in December 2021.

The record set by Holland’s “Spider-Man” film has officially surpassed the milestone achieved by the original 1997/1998 global run of “Titanic.” The James Cameron-helmed blockbuster had an unadjusted total of $1.84 billion, according to Deadline.

“No Way Home” earned $779 million in total in the North American market. It also performed well in four other markets: $127.3 million in the U.K., $76.2 million in Mexico, $65.2 million in France and $63.1 million in South Korea.

Overall, the latest “Spider-Man” flick landed third on the top five list of domestic blockbusters for the Feb. 25-27 weekend. “Uncharted” topped the list after recording a huge gap from the second-placer, Channing Tatum’s “Dog,” which grossed $10 million domestically.

“Death on the Nile,” which stars Gal Gadot, Kenneth Branagh and Armie Hammer, managed to pull in $4.5 million, securing the fourth spot on the Box Office Mojo list. Rounding out the top five is “Jackass Forever” with its $3.2 million sales.

Meanwhile, “Sing 2,” which opened in theaters around Christmas, failed to make it to the top five domestically with its $2.1 million ticket sales. However, it did earn $8.43 million from 66 international markets, bringing its global total to $351.4 million.
