  • Tony Ferguson discloses that a potential Conor McGregor fight repeatedly failed due to their involvement with Paradigm Sports
  • McGregor has yet to fight since breaking his leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier
  • Fighting McGregor will give Ferguson his next best big fight after failing to face Khabib Nurmagomedov

The ever-vocal enigma that is Tony Ferguson was one of the most prevalent talkers in the 2010s, and he continues to be that man to this day, especially after he revealed why a long-anticipated super-fight never came to be yet.

On the latest episode of Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour,” Ferguson bared that a supposed legal issue prevented him from facing mixed martial arts (MMA) superstar Conor McGregor.

“There’s a Miller-Ayala act that says an active agent is not allowed to compete in the same sport as the person you’re representing. I would ask my management if he (McGregor) was the owner of the company. They kept straight-up lying to me,” said Ferguson as quoted by Bloody Elbow.

The company in question is Paradigm Sports, the agency that Ferguson was signed to until he left in 2019, where it is commonly believed that McGregor has an ownership stake thanks to his career earnings in the UFC.

Paradigm CEO Audie Attar has never confirmed this as of yet, but the breadcrumbs left behind by McGregor do point to this idea having legs to it.

McGregor had an online spat with UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, where he mentioned that he was earning a commission from all of his fights–an interesting point since the latter was signed to Paradigm.

Ferguson, not represented by Paradigm anymore, now has one less obstacle in fighting the former two-division UFC champion and also elaborated on his desire to fight McGregor.

“I would love to fight Conor [McGregor] if he still has his academy by my spot because that’s what he ended up doing. He ended up opening up an academy right near me. The dude is so unhappy that he has to copy everybody’s stuff to find happiness,” mentioned Ferguson.

"The Notorious” is still recovering from the gruesome tibia and fibula fracture that he suffered in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

However, McGregor might be best in figuring in a boxing match first with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao after the latter failed in his bid for the Philippine presidency sometime later in the year.

It would allow McGregor to shake off the ring rust that he surely has acquired after not fighting in over a year while also collecting a massive payday.

Having two of the biggest personalities on the UFC’s roster square off against one another is surely going to generate interest with the lack of filters that both men have on the microphone.

Regardless of what the fighting Irishman decides to do next, the interest in a Ferguson fight will be the next best thing for “El Cucuy” after he never got the chance to mix it up with the now-retired Khabib Nurmagomedov.
