While the COVID-19 pandemic created a huge impact on the cinematic experience for viewers, here's a list of highly-anticipated movies releasing in theaters this year.

Top Gun: Maverick

"Top Gun: Maverick" is slated to release on May 27, 2022. It is a sequel to the "Top Gun" movie released in 1986 and became a turning point in Tom Cruise's career. The story is penned by Peter Craig and Justin Marks. The movie also stars Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm and Monica Barbaro.

Jurassic World: Dominion

Chris Pratt's "Jurassic World: Dominion" is slated to release on June 10 and the story is set four years after the events of 2018's "Fallen Kingdom." The flick will showcase how the dinosaurs have successfully taken over the world and they don't live in the theme park anymore. The movie will also feature Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Bullet Train

Sony Pictures' "Bullet Train" will feature Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Andrew Koji. It is slated to release on July 15. The flick is based on Kōtarō Isaka's novel “Maria Beetle. The story revolves around five killers on a bullet train in Tokyo, competing with each other for a suitcase filled with money.

Avatar 2

Here's another highly-anticipated movie on the list, "Avatar 2," which is set 14 years after former human soldier Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Na'vi warrior Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldana) settled down and started their own family. The first installment was dropped in 2009 and since then, fans have been waiting for the second installment, which is slated to release on Dec. 16.

Creed III

"Creed III" is slated to release on Nov. 23. It will feature Michael B. Jordan and also mark his directorial debut. The screenplay of the movie is penned by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin while the story is written by filmmaker Ryan Coogler. The flick revolves around a journey of a boxer who wants to keep his father’s legacy alive. Jordan is currently filming the third installment.

Many other movies like "Invincible," "Everything Everywhere All At Once," "578 Magnum," "Ambulance," "The Man From Toronto" and "Violent Night" are also slated to release this year.
