  • Tottenham Hotspur shows interest in Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon a report says
  • Real Madrid could let Reguilon go for less than $25 million after his impressive season on loan at Sevilla
  • Reguilon is viewed as a cheaper but better version of Ben Chilwell, who recently completed his move to Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur has shown interest in Real Madrid youngster Sergio Reguilon, a left-back described as “better” and “cheaper” than Chelsea’s newest major signing Ben Chilwell, reports from Spain said.

Jose Mourinho previously insisted that Tottenham will not engage in any massive signings this summer. However, some prospects in the current window are still being linked to Spurs, including Los Blancos left-back Reguilon.

Tottenham is said to have been monitoring Reguilon after his impressive season on loan at Sevilla. The Spanish youngster was in fantastic form for Los Nervionenses last season, helping them win the Europa League. Now, the Spurs have emerged as one of the teams leading the race to sign the 23-year-old, Spanish outlet Marca reported.

Mourinho’s side has not lost interest in signing Reguilon from Madrid, especially now that the defender has no place in the current Los Blancos squad with Zinedine Zidane being content with his current options, Marcelo and Ferland Mendy.

Los Blancos would be looking to cash in on Reguilon for a fee in the region of €20 million to €25 million ($24 million to $30 million), an acceptable price tag for someone who was a key player in Sevilla’s European run.

Tottenham could be all set to sign Matt Doherty as its new right-back in the coming days. But with Danny Rose’s future uncertain, the Premier League club might still consider signing a suitable alternative for Ben Davies in the left-back role, making Reguilon a perfect option, the report noted.

With Reguilon up for grabs this window, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus have also shown interest. Chelsea was once keen on landing Reguilon but instead opted to sign Chilwell from Leicester.

Following the completion of Chilwell’s £45 million ($60 million) move to Chelsea, 90min suggested that Premier League sides should now set their sights on Reguilon as the Spaniard would be a cheaper yet upgraded version of the former Leicester star.

Meanwhile, ahead of his debut with the Blues, Chilwell expressed his excitement over joining Frank Lampard’s side, BBC Sport reported.

"I'm looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honors next season,” Chilwell said. "[Lampard] does play the younger players if they are good enough and just from speaking to him, I'm really excited to be here. I think the way the gaffer sets his teams up suits my game perfectly."
