  • Tottenham Hotspur is nearing the completion of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon's transfers from Real Madrid
  • Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is eyeing Benfica's Ruben Dias as another target
  • Mourinho is still searching for a prolific striker

As Tottenham nears the completion of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon's transfers from Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho wants to bring in Benfica’s Ruben Dias as well before the window closes, a report said.

The Spurs pulled off two important signings this week, with the transfers of Bale and Reguilon already done deals. Now, Mourinho is eyeing Benfica defender Dias as the club's next target, Evening Standard reported.

The renowned manager is looking to sign a defender in the remaining days of the transfer window, and Dias is on the top of his list.

Tottenham’s interest in Dias dates back to January, but at the time, Benfica “flatly” refused to let go of Dias, who is represented by Mourinho's longtime associate, Jorge Mendes.

However, due to the financial blow caused by the pandemic and the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, the Portuguese side may change its stance regarding Tottenham's offer.

Dias will not come with a cheap price tag as he has a release clause in his contract valued at around £80 million ($103 million). But Tottenham may be able to negotiate that asking price, especially with Benfica's need for funds.

Aside from Dias, Mourinho is still searching for a prolific striker, and the club has considered Southampton's Danny Ings. However, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Ings is staying at St. Mary's, calling the transfer talks "absolute nonsense," ESPN reported.

Meanwhile, Tottenham still has two transfer deals to ink. Bale and Reguilon both completed their medicals on Thursday, Sept. 17, and arrived at Tottenham's training ground the following day, Sky Sports reported.

The Wales captain has agreed to a season-long loan, which includes an option of a second year. The option could take Bale to the end of his Madrid contract when he officially becomes a free agent by the end of 2021-22 La Liga season.

Bale’s deal is expected to cost Spurs under £15 million ($19.3 million) in wages and fees for this season, with Madrid still paying at least half of his £600,000-a-week salary ($775,000), Football.London reported.

Reguilon, who will cost around €30 million ($35.5 million) in wages and fees, is expected to sign a long-term deal, with the option for Madrid to buy him back for a 50% premium in the future.
