  • Tottenham is considering a move for Braga striker Paulinho
  • Mourinho is looking for a striker to give his squad "good balance"
  • Spurs are also linked to RB Salzburg's Patson Daka and Metz's Habib Diallo

Following Jose Mourinho’s admission that Tottenham is in need of a striker, the Spurs are now considering a move for Braga striker Paulinho as a suitable backup for Harry Kane.

As the transfer window nears expiration, the Spurs are looking to secure a prolific striker to balance the team’s assignments heading into the 2020-21 Premier League season. Tottenham’s recruitment team is apparently doing a great job scouting candidates and has now added Braga’s Paulinho to the list.

Mourinho’s side is planning to reach out to Paulinho, who has a proven goal scoring record, as the renowned manager looks to “ease the load” on his tenured talisman Kane, a source exclusively told 90min.

The 27-year-old has proven his ability to hit the back of the net, reaching double figures during his last four seasons at Braga. He also tallied an impressive 25 goals in 48 appearances for the Portuguese side.

Tottenham could seal the deal for Paulinho's transfer for less than £30 million ($38 million), a figure that doesn’t seem to bother the Spurs, the report said.

Other clubs who pursued Paulinho earlier in the transfer window include Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mourinho recently admitted that Tottenham needed a striker to give his squad for the new season "good balance" and appeared confident that they will be able to sign one before the Oct. 5 summer transfer window deadline.

"Yes, I want, I need a striker," he told the press. "But I want to make it very, very clear that the club – the structure above me – knows that I need a striker and also wants a striker. Are we going to get one? I honestly believe so. For the balance of the squad, the team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions."

Aside from Paulinho, Tottenham also eyed two other strikers this window: RB Salzburg's Patson Daka and Metz's Habib Diallo.

Daka has drawn attention across Europe with his impressive goal scoring at Salzburg. The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Austrian side, tallying a staggering 24 goals and eight assists in 31 games in the country’s top flight. Apart from scoring, Daka has also displayed his versatility on the pitch by proving he can also play out wide if required.

Diallo, on the other hand, was a target of Tottenham in the past. Just before Mourinho called for a striker hunt this window, reports from London revealed that the Spurs revived their interest in the 25-year-old.
