  • Odsonne Edouard could be alternative for Gunners if Aubameyang exits Emirates Stadium
  • Edouard prefers to stay with Celtic F.C.
  • If Aubameyang stays, Arsenal interest in Edouard likely off the table

Arsenal F.C. finds itself in a hole that was of their own doing. After holding off a new deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they now find themselves at the wrong end of the stick. The Gabon captain is now exploring other options with interest coming from Barcelona. Arsenal now has to consider options and one of them could be Odsonne Edouard.

With the Aubameyang situation going from bad to worse, some believe that the Gunners will try to revisit interest in the French forward. Former Celtic FC boss John Barnes sees this happening although he bats that there is no assurance that a deal would go down by the next transfer window, BonusCodeBets reported.

“Do Celtic fans believe that their best player isn’t available for the right price? No, they don’t. This is a fact of life, and modern football,” Barnes said. “Odsonne Edouard is the top striker in Scotland and if Aubameyang was to leave Arsenal, then they will be looking at Edouard’s situation," he added.

But as far as Edouard is concerned, it appears the 22-year-old player prefers to focus on his commitment to Celtic. He knows he was part of the club's success but is not discounting the possibility of changing clubs moving forward.

Edouard has accounted for 28 goals in 45 matches this season. He has been performing well for Celtic FC since moving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017. Aside from Arsenal, teams interested in Edouard include Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United. The asking fee for his release is $25 million.

However, Barnes added that pursuing Edouard is likely off the table if Aubameyang stays. In a previous report, it was mentioned how Arsenal F.C. management was already ready to offer the Gabonese a deal - something that he was reportedly asking for. But all that may have become irrelevant with Barca entering the picture.

With their pursuit of Lautaro Martinez not looking good, Blaugrana is reportedly considering Aubameyang as an alternative. Now, the 31-year-old wants to see first what Barca has to offer before making a final decision.

If he is lost, one person likely to be unhappy is Mikel Arteta. The Gunners coach was pretty upset that management failed to offer Aubameyang a deal in an orderly fashion. Now, Arsenal could end up losing the Gabon captain because of that misstep.
