  • Real Madrid joins race for Odsonne Edouard
  • David Luiz hints returning to former team
  • Edouard hold reasonable transfer fee bounty

Arsenal FC has several targets in mind but it appears reeling them in will not be easy. Among the top targets of the Gunners include Odsonne Edouard of Celtic FC. The French forward has had an impressive season and it appears other teams are also in pursuit. Complicating matters for Mikel Arteta is that David Luiz could be lost after the current season.

Edouard was already a target by Arteta with the transfer fee pegged at $25 million. This season, the 22-year-old striker has accounted for 28 goals in 45 matches. Edouard has been performing well since completing an initial loan to Parkhead from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2017. Unfortunately, that showing has also garnered interest from other teams like Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United. And the latest club to join the mix is Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane allegedly now a fan of the French football player, Defensa Central reported.

There have been several names linked to the Gunners in recent weeks. One of them is Willian of the Blues. The Brazilian is seeking a three-year deal and Arsenal seems willing to give it to him. However, Willian said in a previous report that he would be open to staying on at Stamford Bridge on a temporary deal. It appears he is aware of the financial difficulties that most clubs are facing, something that could hinder his preferred contract.

On Arteta's end, there are players likely exiting. They are reportedly passing on Dani Ceballos, someone currently on loan from Real Madrid. There is also David Luiz who appears to be headed back to his former team. The Brazilian defender is nearing the end of his deal. At 33, it remains to be seen if he could still get a lucrative deal from Arsenal or some other club. Given the choice, Luiz aired that one of his plans is to return to Estadio da Luz and likely retire there in a report from the Benfica website.

“I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colors," Luiz said. “For all that I lived and felt, for what Benfica is in my life and in my history, for everything, Benfica is bigger than any player.”

The only question now is will that dream of returning to Portugal happen after the current season. Arteta has been speaking highly of the Brazilian, but the final decision is for Luiz to make.
