KEY POINTS

  • Kieran Trippier could add the experience needed by Manchester United next season
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be moved to a different position to accommodate Trippier
  • Wan-Bissak knows he has plenty of room to improve

Manchester United is picking up the pieces after a disappointing end to their 2020-21 season.

The Red Devils are expected to scour the market for available talent, and it appears one of their targets is Kieran Trippier.

If reports are true, the English right-back could be close to moving to Old Trafford.

Trippier has the experience that Manchester United could use. Worth noting that the position suited for the 30-year-old is currently held by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka did not exactly have a good season, and head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may inject another player that could give him some sense of urgency.

Last season, Wan-Bissaka logged 4,709 minutes for the Red Devils across all competitions but failed to cap up his season on a high note.

Hence, adding Trippier could be a way to keep him on his feet although nothing has been officially closed.

So far, the word going around is that the English footballer has already started shopping for a house in the area, per a report from The Athletic.

Having previously played for Burnley and Tottenham in the English Premier League, the right-back won his first major trophy with Atletico Madrid last season.

But what makes Trippier a good addition is that his contract won’t cost the Red Devils much.

He holds a £10 million ($14 million) pact, something that Manchester United could afford. If a deal does go down, he could initially become a backup to Wan-Bissaka although that depends on Solskjaer.

If Trippier fails to pan up, there is that possibility he could get the starting nod, assuming the Wan-Bissaka is moved to a different position.

A glimpse of that could come in the pre-season as the Red Devils try to retool and try to make up for a lackluster season.

As far as Wan-Bissaka is concerned, he is aware that he needs to improve his craft. He weighed on this when touched on the matter via the Manchester United official website.

“I feel I've done okay. I can feel it in myself, the confidence and excitement of when every game comes up. You want to play, you can’t wait to get the game started. You know what the team’s capable of, the performances we can all put together to get the result we want,” Wan-Bissaka stated. “My goal was a good feeling. I’ll never forget that. That’s the good moment out of this campaign, for me.”
