KEY POINTS

  • The Wolverhampton Wanderers is valuing Adama Traore at $53.7 million, but Liverpool wants him for even less
  • Traore's limited flashes of brilliance and inconsistency have led to this valuation from Liverpool
  • Barcelona is also interested in Traore but has limited funding to pull off the move

Liverpool is in hot pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore, but they have drawn the line in the sand when it comes to how much they would be willing to shell out.

In an exclusive report from 90Min, the Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on selling Traore to the highest bidder in the upcoming January transfer window.

However, Liverpool and Leeds United have been put off by the Wolves’ asking price of £40 million ($53.7 million).

Liverpool is only allegedly interested in getting Traore for a sum of £30 million ($40.3 million), but the Wolverhampton Wanderers are not considering any deal below the price that they have already set.

Despite this, the same outlet mentioned that both sides are willing to make a deal and that Traore could still be on the move before the end of the impending January window.

In some regard, Liverpool’s valuation of Traore holds up since the 25-year-old has only shown flashes of brilliance and not much consistency since joining the Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.

In 143 total appearances across all competitions for the Wolves, Traore has only scored 10 goals but does most of his damage as a playmaker that breaks down the opponents’ midfield presence with crisp passes, assisting on 12 occurrences.

Surprising as it may be to most people, Traore is a speedy player that can cover the length of the field extremely quickly despite his bodybuilder-like physique.

During the 2019-20 season, Traore was ranked second in the Daily Mirror’s list of top ten fastest players in the English Premier League after hitting 23.48mph in a match last season against Chelsea.

Other than being linked to a move to Liverpool and Leeds United, 90Min also relayed the information that Barcelona is considering making a move for Traore in the same piece.

This does not make sense in the slightest for Barcelona as their financial troubles have been well-documented this season and have a limited amount of money to play with during the transfer window.

Former Barcelona standout turned manager Xavi is highly interested in adding a high-pace winger under the age of 26, and the former Barcelona youth academy player fits the bill.

While they would not be able to buy Traore outright, the next best move for the La Liga giants is to convince the Wolverhampton Wanderers to have a loan deal where Barcelona gets to have an opportunity to buy him outright in the summer.

This would be the only solution to have Traore at Camp Nou, but it would be hard to see a deal happen due to them needing to shore up other positions of need.
