KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal has emerged as potential suitors for Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier
  • Manchester United has also been linked to the 30-year-old
  • Diogo Dolot's emergence may force the club to reevaluate its stance

One of Manchester United’s last remaining transfer targets may be in jeopardy of falling into the wrong hands.

The Red Devils have been linked at making a run for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier as they continue to look for ways to improve their defensive line.

A new report mentions that Trippier is receiving interest from one of Manchester United’s long-standing English Premier League rivals, Arsenal.

Manchester United has long been in talks with the England national team player, but it has been unwilling so far to pony up the £34 million ($47.2 million) asking price that Atletico Madrid has set for Trippier.

The Hard Tackle reports that Manchester United’s current bid for the England national is at £20 million ($27.7 million), and it seems that last year’s runner-ups for the league title are not willing to budge from their current offer.

With that information hanging around in the air, it now comes as no surprise that Arsenal appears to be even keener at swooping up the right-back from their rivals as they prepare an offer for the 30-year-old.

However, Manchester United’s pursuit of Trippier may actually be coming to a close and it might be the breakthrough that Arsenal needs.

New reports suggest that the club is now in “no rush” to bring Trippier to Old Trafford as they see Diogo Dalot playing well in the pre-season.

Dalot was out on loan last season with AC Milan but made his revenge recently as he scored one of the team’s goals en route to beating Everton in a preseason friendly.

While adding Trippier to the squad will improve their depth at right-back alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dolot’s newfound confidence may push the club towards giving him more opportunities instead.

The thinking now at Old Trafford might as well be, “if it’s not Trippier, then Dolot can do the exact same thing”.

With barely three weeks remaining in this summer’s transfer window, Manchester United will need to make key decisions quickly.
