KEY POINTS

  • West Ham United joins the crazy race for Swiss midfielder Denis Zakaria
  • Zakaria's bargain price is only applicable until next summer
  • A deal for Zakaria could happen as early as January

Barely 24 hours after it was reported here on International Business Times that Juventus and Liverpool are slugging it out for the services of Denis Zakaria of Borussia Mönchengladbach, another team has joined the race.

West Ham United is also interested in exploring a potential deal for the Swiss national when his current contract expires next summer, Calciomercato reported.

The 25-year-old has already informed Die Fohlen that he does not intend to sign a new deal, a reason why multiple teams are now closely keeping watch.

Considering that Zakaria dreams of playing in the English Premier League, such is what has sparked interest from multiple clubs.

The only other club aside from West Ham, Juventus and Liverpool who is allegedly looking into acquiring the Swiss midfielder is AS Roma, Calciomercato mentioned in a separate report.

Making the chase for Zakaria even more tempting is that he would be available for a bargain.

Aside from possibly being acquired on a free transfer, a fee of £4.25 million ($5.65 million) could be enough to secure the services of the 25-year-old footballer. This was explained in a recent report here on IBTimes.

Juventus is willing to spend that fee on Zakaria but so are other teams.

There remains no official word on how much West Ham United is willing to shell out, but it is likely to be within that range.

The same holds for the Reds as far as the package they are willing to offer to Zakaria.

However, it appears one team has already jumped the gun on these contending squads for Zajaria. Arsenal has reportedly started discussions with the Swiss player although the actual figures have yet to be known per Fussball Transfers.

Unofficially, it is believed that the Gunners are dangling a fee between £1.7 million ($2.26 million) and £4.25 million ($5.65 million) to Zakaria.

Although the money involved is undoubtedly a bargain, it can only materialize by next summer.

So unless other teams try to pull something this January transfer window, all teams concerned need to wait a couple of months more.
