Amid Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s attempt to hammer out the details necessary to finalize their divorce, the estranged couple has yet to reach an amicable custody arrangement.

The “Mr. and Ms. Smith” stars share six children together, Maddox, 17, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 10. While their eldest child has been given the choice to decide how much time he wants to spend with his parents, a judge handed down a ruling that established each spouses’ allotted time with their younger kids.

Although the court ordered temporary summer custody agreement is now over, Pitt continues to work on his relationship with his children. A source told Us Weekly the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” actor “has the children every other day.”

However, the 54-year-old’s quality time with the little ones are monitored by the Department of Children and Family Services. Since the temporary arrangement ended, Pitt has been allowed to spend four hours a day with his kids on school days and 12 hours on non-school days.

In June, a source told E! News the court ordered arrangement forced the stars to temporarily put their differences aside for the sake of their kids. “Everybody now is focused on the kids having some relationship with their father,” the source explained.

However, the ruling wasn’t enough to repair their strained relationship. “She knows this is a court order and she has to do it... Angelina and Brad have no relationship and they do not speak to each other very much right now.”

Jolie has since hired a new attorney to represent her in the divorce against Pitt after cutting ties with Laura Wasser. “Angelina has decided to change counsel to Samantha Bley DeJean, as Samantha’s expertise is the protection and best interest of children,” a rep for the star told Us Weekly in a statement.

It has been almost two years since Jolie has filed for divorce from Pitt and the spouses have made little progress in legally dissolving their marriage. Although the lengthy battle is expected to continue, an insider noted that Pitt’s ultimate goal is to maintain an active role in his children’s lives.

“He’s hopeful that at the conclusion, he’ll have joint custody of the children. All Brad wants is to be a present dad and coparent with Angelina.”
