Ian Somerhalder has credited his wife Nikki Reed for rescuing him from a "nightmare" eight-figure debt.

On Friday, the "Vampire Diaries" alum revealed how the "Twilight" star helped him out of financial trouble in a sweet tribute for his wife on Instagram. Alongside a sweet photo of them together, Somerhalder shared in a lengthy caption that Reed was the reason he was able to launch his own whiskey brand, Brother’s Bond Bourbon.

"This mama. This human," the 42-year-old actor wrote. "I owe you such gratitude for it all. What many of you may not know is this woman is the reason I was actually able to build @brothersbondbourbon. I’ve never disclosed this publicly, but this woman worked selflessly for 2yrs to build me out of a terrible business situation I got myself into."

Somerhalder revealed that he had built a company that was "important" to him while he was still filming "The Vampire Diaries." He said he invested heavily in it and made huge personal guarantees to banks.

"However due to greed and fraud within that company and fraudulent activities from our biggest customer, not to mention the temporary collapse of the oil and gas industry - I was left in an EIGHT- FIGURE hole," he added.

Describing the situation as "awful," Somerhalder recalled needing to "travel the world weekly" to pay for monthly six-figure banknotes and getting hospitalized multiple times in two years.

"This woman here decided that she didn’t want to see her husband ruin his body/mind/spirit and pulled up her bootstraps and got down in the trenches assembling a team to get to the negotiating table to find a way out," Somerhalder wrote of his wife.

"She devoted her life to getting me out of that mess and it almost killed her along the way. I am where I am BECAUSE of this woman. Brothers Bond Bourbon is actually here today because of this woman. I was able to start my life over because of this woman," he added.

The "Smallville" alum added that the incident was a "humbling experience" and "painful as hell." However, he was grateful that he had Reed by his side, adding, "I owe her my health, my life and my sanity."

Somerhalder went on to praise and gush over his wife, who celebrated her 33rd birthday on May 17.

"You are a superwoman. You made it possible for me to live, build my dreams, and to start my life over. The world needs people like you," he concluded, signing the tribute "Love, Ian aka Baby Daddy."

Somerhalder and Reed tied the knot on April 26, 2015. The couple welcomed their daughter Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder on July 25, 2017.

Meanwhile, Brother’s Bond Bourbon was co-founded by Somerhalder and "TVD" co-star Paul Wesley, who played his brother on the popular CW show. They launched the brand in May last year.
