  • The 25-year-old star performed "Wild Side" and gave Teyana Taylor a lap dance

Normani got the approval of the netizens after her 2021 VMAs performance.

Normani made another show-stopping performance at the VMAs stage after her debut performance in 2019 when she performed "Wild Side." According to Entertainment Weekly, "Wild Side" was a quasi-tribute to Aaliyah and the choreography appeared like it was pulled from "Try Again." However, she took it further by rocking an all-white dance costume that was reminiscent of Aaliyah's "Million" music video.

Aside from singing, Normani wowed the audience and the viewers when she gave Teyana Taylor a lap dance. Many couldn't get over the performance and showered the 25-year-old American singer with compliments for being a great performer.

"NORMANI JUST SLAYED THE VMAS!!! What a queen," one tweeted.

"Normani gave us the best performance of the night. #VMAs," a second user added.

"I didn’t catch the VMAs but from the looks of things, @Normani ate everybody tf up," a third user wrote with a smiling face with heart-shaped eyes emoji.

"#NORMANIVMAS NORMANI IS A LEGEND Y'ALL WILL SEE," a fourth netizen added.

Aside from Normani, several also praised Chloe Bailey's and Lil Nas X's performances. For them, the three stars rocked the VMAs stage the most this year.

"Can I say @Normani and @ChloeBailey I am learning those routines. They will be posted in the near future! Y’all killed it @vmas #BlackGirlMagic," one user wrote.

"Normani, Chloe, and Lil Nas X absolutely KILLED their VMAs performances. This should not come as a surprise, but just glad to witness it," another added while naming other great performers from the event.

"They really had the best performances of tonight. [N]obody is doing it like THEM. THEY ARE THE STANDARD. Chloe Bailey and Normani Kordei are the TRUE winners of tonight. #VMAs," another user tweeted.

Several artists pulled out from the VMAs this year. Lorde was not able to perform due to "a change in production elements." Nicki Minaj, who was not among MTV's officially confirmed or announced performers, said she pulled out from the event.

Normani was among the most requested artists to replace Lorde when the netizens learned the latter couldn't make it.

"So sad… Anyways, REPLACE WITH NORMANI," one fan commented at the time. "Then let Normani perform," another wrote.

MTV seemingly listened to the netizens' request because they invited her to the event. Based on the reviews, it appears that the viewers and fans were happy and satisfied after watching Normani's performance.
