The Ukrainian protest movement, also known as Euromaidan (which translates to “Eurosquare”) began to spiral out of control and into violence on the evening of Feb. 18. By Feb. 22 the Ukrainian Parliament in Kiev voted to remove President Viktor Yanukovych, and one of his rivals, former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, was freed from prison.
