Economists expect the producer price index to fall 0.1 percent. December's retail sales is likely to remain unchanged at 0.2 percent.

December's building permits are likely to fall to 1.297 million from 1.328 mln in November. Housing starts for December is expected at 1.254 mln, compared to 1.256 mln a month earlier.
