  • The Jazz looked into moving Mike Conley for the Cavaliers' Collin Sexton
  • Sexton missed 71 games last season due to a torn meniscus
  • Darius Garland's rise to stardom has made Sexton an expendable asset

The Utah Jazz are one of the few NBA teams that have been linked in the seemingly never-ending Kevin Durant trade saga after reports came out that they have now opened up to listening to trade offers for three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell.

However, that did not stop them from looking elsewhere to improve.

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report revealed that the Jazz have also explored a sign-and-trade scenario involving Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton and Mike Conley.

“Utah has explored a sign-and-trade scenario that would send veteran point guard Mike Conley to Cleveland in exchange for restricted free agent Collin Sexton, sources said,” Fischer wrote.

Fischer then said that the Cavaliers may not be interested in taking Conley back in a deal due to their wealth of guards in the form of Darius Garland and main backup Rajon Rondo.

In late June, Sexton was extended a qualifying offer by the Cavaliers front office which gave them the right to match any offers coming his way.

The problem here is that Sexton was forced to miss all but 11 games last season after he tore his meniscus, helping the Cavaliers to a 7-4 record to start the season.

The Cavaliers were looking towards building a future with Sexton and Garland as their main guards, but it quickly became apparent that Sexton was an expendable asset because of Garland’s rise.

Garland guided Cleveland towards a play-in berth, but the losses of Sexton and versatile center Jarrett Allen did a number to their chances of securing the eight seed.

The 2018-19 All-Rookie member in Sexton has all the makings of a great scoring guard thanks to his ability to slice through defenses and put-up tough shots inside the paint while also being able to knock down the occasional three-pointer.

It is worth noting though that his three-point percentage has gone down every season and reached its lowest when he only made 24.4% of his 4.1 attempts.

With no indication that a team is going to offer Sexton a sizable contract this offseason, it is highly likely that he will remain in a Cavaliers jersey for the time being.
