KEY POINTS

  • The Utah Jazz are sticking with Donovan Mitchell for the 2022-23 NBA season
  • The Jazz could sing a different tune next offseason
  • Three teams are among plausible landing spots for Mitchell

The Utah Jazz do not appear to be making any other blockbuster NBA trade--at least not for the coming season.

After moving Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves, it appears that putting Donovan Mitchell on the trading block is not on the agenda.

However, this is as far as the current NBA season is concerned.

Word got around recently that the Jazz may try and move the three-time All-Star next, but this was shot down by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN over the weekend.

The Jazz are expected to build around Mitchell although not all are completely buying it.

Some feel that it is a way to gain some leverage in a move that could drive up the asking price for the 25-year-old guard, assuming that there are true plans to trade Mitchell in the future.

But for now, there are some factors to consider as far as why the Jazz would want to cling on to Mitchell.

One is that the 2023 All-Star Game will be held in Salt Lake City. Hence, the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk champion would undoubtedly be the poster boy of the festivities.

However, if the Jazz produce yet another disappointing season, it could be a different story next offseason.

Especially with most of the attention on potential franchise players Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson, Utah could be one of several teams trying to improve their chances on the incoming cagers.

As far as possible stops, there have already been a couple of teams that could make sense for the 6-foot-1 guard.

The Miami Heat and New York Knicks have been mentioned as plausible landing spots although questions remain on who could be dangled.

As far as the Heat, a package could include Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry plus some draft picks.

On the part of the Knicks, they may have to give up RJ Barrett if they were to seriously consider Mitchell.

The Brooklyn Nets, a team that seems to be crumbling, could also make sense for Mitchell.

With Kevin Durant airing his wish to be moved, Mitchell could be part of multiplayer trade scenarios.

For now, Mitchell is likely to enjoy the 2022-23 season as a member of the Jazz.

However, this could change depending on certain events, including the overall performance of the team for the upcoming wars.
