Vampire Diaries Bonnie death
Bonnie (Kat Graham) seems to be in rough shape, but not dead, at the beginning of the series finale of “The Vampire Diaries.” The CW

“The Vampire Diaries” may have just spoiled a big plot point of the series finale. A newly-released video shows Stefan explaining Elena’s sudden return to consciousness, and it seems to hint at Bonnie’s fate.

The clip, released by Entertainment Tonight, reveals a defeated Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) returning to their home in Season 8, episode 16. They feel like Katherine (Nina Dobrev) won, but it’s not all bad news. Elena’s coffin is open.

“Earlier, Bonnie’s heart stopped,” Stefan says. “She said she saw Elena.” Suddenly, Elena (Dobrev) appears behind them.

The clip seems to imply that Bonnie (Kat Graham) is alive and recovering, which wasn’t where we last left her. In a cliffhanger, Vicki (Kayla Ewell) started ringing the Maxwell Bell to destroy the town of Mystic Falls. Bonnie immediately fell to the ground, and it seemed like she was going to be the big finale death. However, if she spoke to Stefan, it looks like she isn’t dead and gone, just temporarily deceased.

Fans kind of figured that Bonnie wasn’t exactly dead yet. After all, she appears in photos of episode 16.

Though Bonnie apparently survives that incident with Vicki, that doesn’t mean she’ll survive the “Vampire Diaries” series finale. It has been confirmed that someone from the core cast will die, and Elena will attend the funeral. Everyone is still an option.

The return of Katherine makes it particularly difficult to guess the victim. The vindictive doppelganger is willing to kill anyone. The fact that it’s only one death is a miracle. Check out theories on who might bite the dust HERE.

The “Vampire Diaries” Season 8 finale, which will be the series finale, airs Friday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
