Although some are mourning the return of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, which means the airing of the final episodes of the series, star Ian Somerhalder is rejoicing over all his hard work and wants fans to join in.

The actor, who plays Damon Salvatore on the hit CW series, asked fans on Instagram to join him in watching the episode he directed on the eve before the Friday night premiere.

Somerhalder expressed his excitement about the upcoming episode, “We Have History Together,” because it will be the last one he directs on the long-running series. “I directed this episode and I’m pretty proud of the work we accomplished in 7 days of shooting,” the actor gushed Thursday night over his accomplishment before asking fans to tune in.

In the photo, Somerhalder is pictured portraying his popular character, Damon. “Let me know if you can watch with me & spread the word please,” he wrote. Although Somerhalder expressed his understanding of the difficulty of actually tuning into a show during its air time rather than watching the series at a later date, he asked fans to make time.

“I know live TV can be a pain in the ass in the 21st century to schedule into our hectic lives but I only ask because it’s my last episode. I think you'll like it. Put your feet up, relax and watch... Thanks to all- truly,” the actor wrote before signing off “Ian and Damon.”

The upcoming episode marks the actor's third and final episode taking on the director role for “The Vampire Diaries.”

In a previous post shared the day before, the actor thanked fans who have remained loyal throughout his journey on the show. “Your support is so appreciated and helps us further our mission: striving to create good content through story telling,” he wrote.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 will return Friday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
