Stocks rose on Thursday as upbeat economic data gave investors confidence the economic recovery is on track.

But Nasdaq's gains were kept in check as Research In Motion shares got pummeled following downbeat results.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 70.44 points, or 0.65 percent, to end unofficially at 10,927.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 8.67 points, or 0.74 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,178.10. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 4.62 points, or 0.19 percent, to close unofficially at 2,402.58.

For the week, the Dow rose 0.7 percent, the S&P 500 gained 1 percent and the Nasdaq added 0.3 percent. The main indexes scored a fifth straight week of gains.
