Kai Havertz said he "wants to score more and more goals, that is my aim" after netting his first senior hat-trick during Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup on Wednesday.

It was Havertz’s first goals for Chelsea after moving to Stamford Bridge from Bayer Leverkusen for $90 million this summer.

England striker Tammy Abraham put Chelsea 1-0 up in the 19th minute before he played a role in all Havertz’s goals.

In a post-match interview with Chelsea’s official website, 21-year-old Havertz hailed his partnership with Abraham on the field. “Tammy is a very, very good striker. Our partnership on the pitch was very good. I am very thankful for the assists. It was our first game together, but I like him very much as a striker, and it was very good to play with him. He can hold the ball up, he is very fast and I hope we continue like that.”

The young German forward also explained how everyone assumes Chelsea will win all their matches against a less superior opponent. "I am very happy to score three goals," said the German. "It means a lot. It’s my beginning at the club and I want to score more goals, more goals. This is my goal! I hope to continue like this. When you are Chelsea and you play against lower teams everybody says you have to win, but it’s not that easy,’ noted Havertz, who played just over an hour," added Havertz in the same interview.

With the hat-trick against Barnsley, Havertz has now been involved in as many as 26 goals in all tournaments in 2020, scoring 18 and providing eight assists. Only Robert Lewandowski (35), Lionel Messi (32), and Cristiano Ronaldo (31) have been involved in more goals among players in the top five European leagues.

Hailing the young German national, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said in a post-match interview, "I'm delighted with Kai. It was everything I wanted the night to be for him. Because Kai has had no pre-season and signing for the club took a few days out for him as well. Tonight, was a great exercise for him to see how we want to work off the ball, for him to be a part of that."
